Happy Thanksgiving!

November 21 Happy Thanksgiving!

I felt like this was a very successful week. We were able to continue teaching all of our progressing investigators and find some new investigators that have some really good potential!
La familia Challes is doing well as far as their spiritual progress. They were able to come to church again yesterday and Luis should be able to get baptized this Saturday! It was really great in church because all of the members were very kind to them. Luis and Christian got a long really well with the young men and that should make it easier for them to keep coming (:
The biggest surprise and miracle was our investigator Angel coming to church with his inactive wife! Angel is about 80 years old, even though he looks 60. Angel is from Mexico, but has many years living here in Chiapas. He has 3 kids with his wife, one of which is the president of the young women in our ward. Angel and Irma have been getting more and more interested in our church in the last couple weeks because at first they were a little closed. For years they were going to the pentecostes church. Irma was actually baptized in our church when she was about 12 years old but went inactive shortly afterward. Irma was actually the one most reluctant to attend church. Angel has wanted to go for some time now, but they never really seemed to get the courage to go. After bringing many members with them they were able to build more confidence in coming, but they still lacked something. One day Angel was telling us that mostly they don’t go to church because they have a big lot of land on the outskirts of Chiapa De Corzo and they go every Sunday to cut down the overgrowth and big weeds or "monte". So my companion and i thought that it would be a great service project for the elders to do in the zone! We finally convinced Angel and Irma to let us do the service and we planned it all out. Elder Clark gave us permission to do it and we had everything ready to go! So last Friday early in the morning, Elder Lima, Burke, a member from their ward, Elder Terriquez, Hernandez, Martinez, Martinez and my companion and I went to cut "monte" with a bunch of machetes! It was the best service I’ve ever done on the mission! It was a blast to go with Angel and all 9 of us got to know him more. As we got there he guided us and we got to work! Well after a lot of sweat, blood and maybe a tear or two (; we were able to finish the service project and get back to our areas. We were all very sore afterward and had many blisters, but it was well worth it!!!
Angel now has a baptismal date for the 23rd of December! He really reminds me of my grandpa haha. I’m sad that I won’t be able to see the baptism, but I am very happy for their family! His daughter who is a member is very happy!
Miracles are happening and will keep on going! We will keep working hard to see more.

November 14th - Almost at the 2 year mark! (Nov. 19th)

Well this week was great! We saw a lot of miracles this week! Honestly im not sure why Heavenly Father was so good to us. Im very grateful for the blessings that we recieved this weekend.

Last week we worked really hard to get our investigators to church, because we knew that the Mexico area conference was going to be really special. Our ward mission leader said that we needed to pray extra hard so that our investigators would make it to the conference. God answered our prayers and we were able to get 6 investigators to the conference! Each one was truly a miracle.

3 of the investigators was a family that we have been teaching the last couple of weeks. Betty and her eldest kids, Brenda and Luis were able to make it to the conference! We were actually planning on letting them go for a time because they havent been completing their commitments. In the last 2 weeks a member has passed by to take them to church and everytime they havent gone. But yesterday they came to church without anyone even going to get them! They should be able to get baptized in December. Unfortunetaly Luis is leaving the state and wont be back for many months...but we hope he will look for the church over in "Jalisco".

Aranzazu is another investigator that came and she has a baptismal date for the 26th of November. We are going to pray a lot and teach her well so that she will be able to meet her goal. A member passed by to take her to church and she gets a long really well with that member! Fellowshipping is great!

Michelle came to church again with her cousins and she continues to progress to her baptismal date the 03 of December. We just need to make sure that her parents will give her permission. We are gaining her moms confidence little by little!

The last investigator that came to church was truly a miracle! My companion and i had been praying a lot to find new investigators that would progress and we found one! We contacted Luis on thursday and he said that we could teach his whole family on Saturday. So we came back on Saturday and it turns out that his mom Rosa and older brother Christian are members! Rosa just moved here with her family (3 boys) from Tapachula 5 months ago. They came here to Tuxtla becuase Christian is very sick and needs treatment here in Tuxtla. Rosa has about 20 years in the church on and off and Christian (15 years old) has about 2 years in the church. Luis is 12 years old and Kevin is the youngest at 8 years old. Both Luis and Kevin arent members of the church and they both want to get baptized! Luis accepted a baptismal date for the 26th of November! We told them that we would pass by for them at 8:30 the next day to go to church and when we showed up the next day they were all ready to go. We didnt even have to knock the door! jaja

My companion and I are both very happy and grateful. We are going to keep working hard so that we can see more miracles!

November 7 post

Yesterday was a very good Sunday because so many less active members came to Churchl! Around nine of the less active members that we had visited last week came. Then when my companion and I saw them all come in at once we were so happy! Aside from them another 4 investigators came, 2 that we were teaching and 2 that came out of nowhere! The 2 we didn’t know are employees of the bishop and we don’t know how but the family of the bishop somehow was able to bring 2 yesterday and they are very interested!

Elder Jacinto taught a nice class about temples and family history work for the gospel principles class. It was also nice because a former bishop came in and helped us a lot in the class! Bishop Nataren read in Luke 16 and explained the great need we have as members to help our ancestors. It was amazing the story in Luke 16.

Then during the priesthood hour, the teacher hadn’t prepared a class at all so he said, "The elders are always prepared, they can give it!" ha ha. So then we had the privilege of teaching the elders quorum and it was fun. Right now our 2 investigators who can be baptized here soon are Frida and her sister Aranzazu. November 26 will be the goal! Frida arrived yesterday and already has 4 assists. Aranzazu has his 5 assists and wants to be baptized. 2 missing much teaching but we will teach everything as fast and efficient as possible.

We are just now starting to teach the grandpa of an investigator that we have. Angel was born in the Catholic Church, but 10 years ago he started to go to the "Pentecostal" church. Angel is turning out to be a very good investigator that really wants to know what the truth is. He has been kind of confused his whole life with all the different religions and opinions. He has great questions and we are helping him answer them. I feel like he will be baptized next month.
As we have been reading Preach my Gospel as a missionary I have really been enjoying it! Preach my Gospel is definitely scripture! Every time I read it I learn something new. It’s funny how you can read the scriptures every day and still never get tired of reading them!
We are still alive and kicking over here in Palmas and have planned to do so until the very end!
It’s my companion’s birthday today! (:
It’s getting a little bit cooler here at night time! I only have the fan on "low" at night now :D
Have a great week everyone!
