Pics from June

June 27 Post

Well the good news is that my companion is healthy again! It was a pretty crazy week, but a lot of the members helped us out doing divisions. We were still able to meet our goal for lessons with member because the members helped us out so much. This week we are planning on finding a lot of new golden investigators. We are having to drop a lot of our investigators more quickly than normal. My companion and i are being really direct with our investigators and because the result is being able to figure out if they are ready to progress now or if we need to let them go for a while.

We were hoping for a lot of investigators this last Sunday, but the only one that was able to go was Veronica. She is progressing really well now! She joined the young women’s choir in the ward and loves it! There was a seminary graduation yesterday and the choir sang in it. She came all by herself to be able to sing with the choir! When an investigator comes to the church building by themselves it means that they are ready for baptism! We are planning on baptizing her the 09 or 16th of July.

We are going to try baptize another one of our investigators named Carlos the 23rd of July. Carlos has been a really great investigator! He has just had problems getting to church!... He lived in Phoenix Arizona for a while and went to our church 3 times with his uncle. We read some of the Book of Mormon with him and he felt the spirit really strongly! He has the testimony so now he just needs to get to church and it’s a done deal(: He really wants to meet his goal of the 23rd of July.

The atonement helped me a lot throughout this week. I could feel the spirit as i read these words from Dieter F Uchtdorf’s last general conference talk, "The joyous news of the gospel is this: because of the eternal plan of happiness provided by our loving Heavenly Father and through the infinite sacrifice of Jesus the Christ, we can not only be redeemed from our fallen state and restored to purity, but we can also transcend mortal imagination and become heirs of eternal life and partakers of God’s indescribable glory". The gospel and Christ’s atonement can help us get out of the stressful situations in our lives. The atonement helped me have a joyful week!

The mission is the best! My companion and I are really happy to be here and we will work hard so that the missionaries in our zone can feel the same!

Have a great and joyful week!

Se Bautiza Nacho!

June 20 posting

Right from the start Nacho was a "escojido"! He was waiting anxiously for us before our first appointment we put with him. We taught him some of the plan of salvation because he wanted to know where his niece was and if he was going to be able to see her again. He ate up all the plain and precious truths of the gospel we taught him. He has such a big desire to follow Jesus Christ. He went to church every Sunday after we fist taught him except for one Sunday where his mom didn’t let him go. Even before he got baptized he wanted to accompany us to preach the Gospel. He is only 15 years old, but he says that he wants to be a missionary like us! We went out on visits with him once before he was even a member!

What helped him most was bringing members to fellowship him. Lots of the members that we brought were youth that already knew him from their soccer team or school! A lot of members helped us out during the conversion of Nacho. When it came time for him to get baptized the big obstacle was getting permission from him mother. We took a member with us so that he could testify of how the gospel had blessed his family. She ended up giving him permission and even went to the baptism! His mom was really proud of him and says that she is going to start to listen to us a little more! Nacho is a great missionary because he already gave us another reference of his cousin who wants to "mejorar" his relationship with God.

I think the smile the converts have after they are baptized is my favorite part of missionary work.

In the area we have a couple other investigators that should be baptized in July. We are working hard to bring a lot of different members with them so that they can feel comfortable in the church. Elder Granados is doing well in the new area! The only bad thing is that he is really sick right now! He has been getting better but the last couple days his stomach hasn’t been treating him very well. It’s really weird because he is coming from los altos de chiapas and the last thing we thought was him getting sick from the food. We hope that he gets better soon!

I was able to do a baptismal interview this last week which is always a great experience. During the interview a scripture came to my mind and i shared it with the investigator (now convert). It was John 16:33 which reads, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world". I love this scripture and i love my savior Jesus Christ. With this new challenge to read the Book of Mormon before september 2nd highlighting all the references to Jesus Christ, I have felt the spirit of Christ fill my life. The Book of Mormon is truly another testament of Jesus Christ and Christ gives me peace as i read it just like he said in John. We should not fear. The world is getting crazy, but DONT WORRY....CHRIST OVERCAME this world and with his help so can we (:

Have a GREAT week!

June 13th post

New transfer, new adventure! I feel like every transfer I have in the mission gets better and better. This truly is the work that brings eternal happiness. I am excited to be meet my new companion Elder Granados! I’ve only heard 3 things about him, 1-he is really good 2- he is crazy and 3- he is really funny. I’m excited to have fun and work hard with Elder Granados. I think he might go into culture shock being in the city because he has been in pueblitos his whole mission haha.

We are planning to baptize Nacho this week and he is really excited! I don’t think I’ve ever had an investigator so excited to be baptized! He is really one of the "escojidos". Yesterday we found a new investigator that went with the testigos before, but right now she is not in any religion. Her name is Mari Lu and i have big hopes with her! She seems to be so sincere and pure, looking for the truth in her life. She is a lonely old lady who lives with her son that has an alcohol problem so I’m pretty sure the gospel is just what she needs! Apparently Elder Jarret and Weaver contacted her a long time ago, but they could never find her house. We were walking down the street one day and she contacted us! She asked us why we didn’t go to visit her yet and we were motivated to go look for her again. We were about to give up, but the spirit guided us to a street nearby and we found a house that described the direction she gave us. Sure enough it was her house!

Best of all this week was being able to see Laura Karina get baptized! Laura’s story with the church started years ago. Our ward mission leader, brother Gaytan, served here in this mission and our area and one day he gave us a reference of one of his old investigators here in San Jose. We started to visit Laura and she commented to us that when the missionaries stopped visiting her, her life went downhill. She told us that was how she recognized that she needed to get baptized and that this was the true church. When we started teaching her she accepted everything! She had all the required church attendances and so it was just a matter of time before she would get baptized. Just like all baptism stories we need some opposition right? Well sure enough the opposition came from her own home!.... Her husband Mario is a worldly guy who says that he is ok with her going to church and everything, but on the inside he doesn’t like the idea of Laura being religious. Laura received a lot of persecution from her husband and family, but in the end Laura was able to conquer all the obstacles Satan threw at her.

We feel that the main thing that helped Laura were the members! We had to take a lot of different members to help her out. We always thought, "if Satan and his followers are going to attack her, we need reinforcements!". So we took a sister in out ward, her son, one of her neighbors, the pres. of soc. de soc. and her husband the elders quorum president and another family that lives by her. The night that helped her out a ton was the family home evening that i talked about in my last letter. It just shows that we need to fight harder than ever for our baptisms now.

The baptismal service went really well and the sisters from Teran also baptized with us. Brother/ Elder Gaytan was able to baptize Laura which was very special! The spirit was really strong when she bore her testimony at the end of the baptismal service.

Have a great week everyone!

June 6 Pics!

June 6 Post!

This week we worked very well with the members! We're happy because basically everyone was willing to accompany us. We just have to invite them and they are always ready to accept our invitation.

We had a noche de hogar with Laura and a lot of different members and it really helped her out a lot! She was receiving a lot of attacks from her family and because of that she hasnt gotten baptized yet, but now she is being really strong and has her baptismal date for this Saturday! She is really decided now and we are confident that she will get baptized this week. In the noche de hogar we were in a members house and we had 3 other members come to help out Laura too. Each one of the members present had similar experiences to Laura and were able to bare their testimonies to her. It was a very spiritual night and Laura was in shocked by all the support she was receiving. Some of the members there had some really impresive life experiences.

For example, Sister Santiago was completely regected by her family when she decided to get baptized and her mom said that she didnt want to talk to her until she was dead. Sister Santiago said that she was persistant with her mom and would try hard to serve and love her. As the years passed by her mom eventually accepted her daughter again.

Also, brother Rosario was able to come with us as well. He is the leader of the high priests. Hno Rosario went to the United States when he was in his 20s and found the church over there. He decided to get baptized and later when he came back to Chiapas he sat his whole family down and his friends and told them about his decision. He was in the JW church before and so as you can imagine they all started to attack him one by one. He said that he was rejected completely by his family and friends because he joined the church and to this day all of them go to the other side of the street when they see him walking down the same street or they change to the farthest seat away from him in the public transport. It was very hard for him and he was completely alone. He expressed that he knew he was following Jesus Christ and so he decided to Dedicate more of his efforts in helping the church of Christ grow.

These two stories are big testimonies to me of the courage we need as members of the church.

Nacho has fecha bautismal for the 18th of June and is progressing really well! The youth of the ward have fellowshiped his and he feels like he is part of the group! He really looks like he is going to help out the young men in the ward.

In the stake we started teaching a new class of Preach my Gospel to the youth and they all really enjoyed it! We enjoyed teaching the class as well and can see that this will help the whole stake in the missionary spirit!

We will see what happens in the last week of transfers. I think my companion might get changed this transfer. Well have a great week everyone!
