Book of Mormon Story

I was reading in Alma ch. 16 this week and i loved the beginning of the chapter! In this chapter the Lamanites crossed the borders and destroyed the city of "Ammoniah" and took many people captive into the wilderness. But then Zoram and his two sons go to Alma, the high priest, and asked him what they needed to do to save the captives. Alma then asked the Lord for guidance and told Zoram what they needed to do. As Zoram and his troops obeyed Alma's indications they were able to FIND and SAVE all of the captives. I compared this to how Satan and his forces sometimes come into a city or house or a family and take away captive some of Gods children. If we are as Zoram and listen to our church leaders, like Alma in this story, we will be guided perfectly to our lost brothers and be able to save them from captivity.

Como dice en Alma 16:8, "no se habian perdido ni uno solo de los cautivos". translation:
...and they took their brethren who had been taken captive by the Lamanites, and there was not one soul of them had been lost that were taken captive.

The zone was able to help 2 people enter the waters of baptism this last Saturday. Giovani and Maria De Los Angeles were able to meet their goal and be baptized! It was really special for Maria De Los Angeles because her son, who is a bishop in Cancun, was able to come down here and baptize her! He has been waiting a long time for that moment.

This week Elder Thomson and i have 2 baptisms scheduled and they are both really excited! Jose Antonio and Juan Jesus are going to both really help out the ward because they both have energy and love learning about the gospel! We hope that their parents will be able to accept the gospel some day as well. The baptism should be this Saturday at 5pm.

The members are really helping us out a lot in our area. I had more lessons with member present then i think ive ever had on my mission! It is extremely important that the members help out because when the members are involved with an investigator it is more likely that they will get baptized. Jose and Juan both have family that are members and have helped a lot in their conversion. We also have another investigator that was a reference from a member and she is progressing toward her baptismal date the 19th of March. I would really love to baptize that day because its my birthday(:

Its getting hotter here in Tapachula, but the missionaries are excited and even though we are sweating like crazy, we still have smiles on our faces!

Yo se que nuestros lideres son llamados por dios. Se que debemos orar cada dia para poder obedecer los mandatos del SeƱor con mas exactitud.

Les amo mucho!

Feb 15

This Saturday made my week! When we went to see Elder Oaks i was praying to be able to receive revelation for the zone and my life and i sure felt the spirit! When Elder Oaks walked in it, the spirit was amazingly strong. The 6 hour long bus ride leaving at 12 o'clock on the morning was definitely worth it! It is amazing how the spirit can teach so many truths to you when you hear an apostle of the Lord. I didn't sleep at all the night before, but the spirit kept me awake during the whole thing! He taught us about the importance of teaching repentance before inviting our investigators to baptism. It is extremely important for them to apply the atonement in their life before they are baptized.

They let me play the piano too so that was a good experience! I enjoy every opportunity i get to touch a piano! its weird how much i miss playing every day.

The zone is doing well right now and there should be some baptisms coming this week in the zone!

We felt the love in the air yesterday preaching the gospel of love (: haha i hope you all have a great week and enjoy the nice february weather up there.

My new companion's name is Elder Thomson. He is from Utah....hahah (: Ive had a lot of Utah companions! He is from this place called Brigham city. He has 18 months in his mission. He's pretty tall too! Hes a good guy and I'm pretty sure we are going to have a lot of success together.

This week Elder Thomson and I walked a lot. For some reason a lot of our citas fell, but we ended up finding some people that are interested in the message! We are pretty excited because we should baptize some jovenes this month! 2 of them are basically members already.

One of them is Juanito. Juanito is family of a less active member. When we gave Juanito a Book of Mormon he went to his less active uncle and started to ask him questions about the Book of Mormon! In result of juanitos curiosity of the Book of Mormon, this inactive uncle is now active! They both have planned to read the Book of Mormon together every night (: Juanito is going to be a good missionary.

The other joven is Jose Antonio and he is already going out on visits with us and he isnt even a member yet! He is also family of some members and is embracing the gospel to the fullest! He comes to all of our ward activities and everything. Part of our Plan De La Obra de Salvacion en barrio Jardines is to have activities every Saturday at 5pm. So far it is going really well!

The ward here has been really weak for the last couple of years, but the ward is starting to progress really well. We've had an assisitance (church attendance) of 65 two weeks in a row and there are a lot of members working with us. We have a lot of hope right now.

This week Elder Oaks is coming to Tuxtla Gutierrez! The whole mission is going to be able to go so we are really excited! We are going to leave Tapachula like at 12 at night and get there in the morning and then come right back to Tapachula when it ends. It should be a good trip, but I hope I can sleep on the way haha...

I hope you all are doing well! Have a great week!

My scripture of the week is Alma 5:33-34.

Pictures at last !

February 1

Well this week is tranfers. I'm kind of sad because Elder Jarrett is going to up to Tuxtla, but I'm thankful for the success we had together! Elder Thompson is coming tomorrow and im really excited to work with him. We are going to baptize everyone! I know that transfers are always meant to help us grow.

In the zone we had 6 baptisms this last week and everyone was pretty happy! We have all been applying the focus of teaching the doctrine of Christ and i feel like that is giving a lot of results. We are going to look for more ways to improve the way we teach about the doctrine of Christ. I know that preaching repentance and baptism is just what Tapachula needs! This world is truly wicked, but I know by being baptized by someone holding the authority of God, anyone can be cleansed.

We had 11 investigadores come to church this Sunday which was amazing! All of them are really great too! Martin, Jorge, Laura, and Frida have all of their assistances (attended Church) now so we are going to keep teaching them and commit them to baptism. We also had these 3 jovenes that have come twice in a row and they are all animated and have baptismal dates for February. There names are Jose, Ricardo y Juanito. Juanitos Uncle is less active and he came with us too! It was overall a day of miracles.
